How to Make Gache Melee

Gache Melee: Welcome

1lbs wholemeal flour 

1lbs cooking apples (cored and peeled)

1tsp cinnamon

Rind of 1 lemon

8oz butter
1lbs demerara sugar

-method-

1- slice the apples and mix with the flour, grated lemon rind and spices 

2- mix together thoroughly and leave for a few hours to  allow the apple juices to seep out

3- cream together the butter and sugar (saving a little for the top of the cake), fold in the eggs 

4- add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and stir well.

5- place mixture into a baking tin, sprinkle a layer of demerara sugar over the top of the cake.

6- bake at 160/170 for about 90 minutes until the top is well borwned and the edges have cripsed.

Fold in the eggs to the butter and sugar mix.

Add the egg mixtue to the flour and apple mixture and mix well. Place the mixture into a baking tin sprinkle the remaining sugar on top of the mixture 

and put in the oven at 170' for about 90 mins, or until well browned.
